Canaroc was a Canadian model rocket manucturer who was later acquired by Irwin toys in the early 1980’s. They had some really nice designs. This one had a really cool Sci-Fi look to it, and yet was a simple rocket too. Perfect first try at cloning a rocket!
My Orbitron is more of a SPEV (Spare Parts Elimination Vehicle) meaning you simply use parts you have lying around, so there are a few differences. I will be using a BT-55 upper tube instead of the BT-50, and the nose cones are not 100% accurate but close enough, hence the SPEV designation.
After reading of one clone being built and having major stability issues, I’ve decided to use the tri-fin approach instead of the traditional four. It is believed that the fins mounted within the outriggers (for the engine pods) may not be fully effective. Oddly enough, when you cut out the fin alignment sheet, it is actually a tri-fin mark, not the four fins, as depicted in both images below! This could have been a last minute update by Canaroc due to the stability issues.
